Teach Your Children How To Do Chores Without Breaking Appliances

As your child gets a little older, it will be time for you to teach them how to do more involved chores. This may include teaching them how to use certain appliances throughout the house. If you don't show them how to do certain things correctly, then you may be sorry you didn't, as you can find yourself in fast need of an appliance repair person. If the appliance is damaged enough, then you may even find yourself headed to the appliance store for a new one. It's so much easier to just make sure you teach your child how to correctly use the appliances, so you can avoid problems to begin with. Here are some things you want to make sure to teach your child about using the appliances in your home.

Make sure loads of laundry are balanced

Show your child how to properly balance a load of clothes when putting then in the washer, so the washer doesn't become unbalanced. They should add in a little bit of clothing at a time and spread them evenly around the washer. Larger items should be washed alone and be put into the washer carefully, so they are loosely spread around in the washer basin.

Don't overload the washer

Show your child how to put in a proper-sized load of clothing. Even though the washing machine may have a setting for a large load, this doesn't mean that it can be stuffed to the top. This is going to put too much stress on the machine and can lead to early breakage.

Don't overload the dishwasher

It's just as important to make sure the dishwasher isn't overloaded. While you can show your child how to do a full load, explain to them that if there are a lot of very heavy dishes to be washed, the heavy ones should be distributed throughout two loads instead of one, as this would put too much weight on the racks in the dishwasher.

Make sure the dryer lint screen is checked before each load

Show your child where the lint screen is on the dryer and how to clean it. Explain to them that the lint needs to be thoroughly removed from the lint screen after or before each use. Leaving the lint from the load before in the lint screen will cause more power to be used and the clothes will take a lot longer for the dryer to dry.
